Though many establishments provide paper towels so that clients may wipe down any equipment on which they have sweated, a paper towel really is inadequate for wiping away sweat from the brow, neck and cleavage or body, arms and legs before returning to the physical task to be continued.

Gym towels need to be absorbent as they are used primarily to mop up excess sweat from active bodies. They need only be small as they are not meant for covering the body as bath towels or bath sheets are and they do not have to protect the modesty of the user. Their purpose is to make those engaged in physical exertions comfortable and safe to use the equipment of their choice without slippery sweat interfering with a grip or vision.
