For many of the exciting and challenging outdoor activities you might decide to undertake in your leisure time you would be advised to make sure that you layer your clothing to ensure good thermal regulation so that you can control your body temperature effectively. It is a fact that if you get too hot you will overheat and if you get too cold you will freeze.

Neither hyperthermia (heat stress/overheating) nor hypothermia (cold stress/freezing) are good states for the body to be in. By layering clothing and wearing fabrics that allow breathability and have moisture drawing capabilities through the wicking effect, a body can be more comfortable as it helps to prevent chafing that can occur with excessive sweating and friction from a wet fabric against skin when the body is moving.

Thin undergarments or base layers will make a tremendous difference to your levels of comfort if you have to spend prolonged periods in cold conditions. Skiers, climbers and those who work on projects outdoors or even spend time as spectators at events with extreme weather conditions will appreciate the insulation provided from vests, long johns and beanie hats that protect the body and help prevent loss of heat.
