The crown of a beanie might be constructed in fully seamed quarter panels or partially seamed to create the perfect shape for a snug fit against the scalp. Fabrics with a stretch capability either in their knit or composition mean they can be pulled on comfortably, a little give allowing you to adjust it to suit then returning to shape when you have it in place.

Some beanie styles may have a trimmed hem for folding back, other styles have a smooth finish that can be rolled or folded depending on the look you wish to achieve. To keep your head warm is probably the main reason why you would wear a beanie but it can also be a safety item if you opt for one with a fluorescent colour and hi-viz reflective stripes that would allow you to be seen at night
