Duffle bags have been around forever it seems. They have achieved such longevity because they are successful at what they do. Their cylindrical shape and draw cord closing at the top has stood the test of time and made them a firm favourite with travellers, students, and sports players alike.

A duffle bag packed with clothes has often become a seat or a headrest for a weary traveller, its shape makes it ideal for such alternative use, or abuse. In days gone by the duffle bag, a humble item was often slung about by schoolboys, doubled up as a tackle bag for rugby practice or straddled like a horse for watching games on the sidelines.

It does actually perform well as a travel or kit bag and it fits into luggage racks easily. A duffle bag is happy to be stored upright, on its side horizontally or slotted like a tube into a small space, something that other types of luggage cannot readily do. If there is no space for storage it can nestle comfortably on a lap and be hugged and rested on until the journey is completed.

Duffle bags have a certain retro appeal and are robust, durable items that are easy to carry and store and when not in use can be squashed or folded down to fit into a small space or hang on a peg.
