A good backpack is worth its weight in gold. Well constructed with quality materials and lightweight fabric composition a backpack also has to have secure and comfortable strapping. Padding on the straps prevents them cutting into the shoulders uncomfortably and helps to spread the load evenly.

Strapping is an essential element for a backpack to be successful. If the stitching or the ‘welding’ at the anchor points is weak, the strapping can break and the whole integrity of the bag is compromised. It can no longer function as a good backpack.

As backpacks can be subject to quite arduous wear and tear good designs will include a grip handle as well as shoulder straps so that there is an alternative method for carrying it. Plenty of easily accessibly storage space with smoothly operating zips, cords and toggles is essential and a wipe clean finish so that you can keep it looking fresh also makes for a good backpack.

A bag that allows you to have your hands free makes life an awful lot easier when carrying a heavy or bulky load and a compact design makes it easy to store under seats, in cloakrooms, on pegs or in luggage racks.
