Printed Clothing Garments Guide

A guide on printed clothing at JKL

The information below has been put together to show some of our most popular printed garment types and to give some basic information on how printing can be used as a chosen method to personalise a range of clothing types.

There are many different clothing types and some are better suited than others to accept a print. For example, polo shirts come in a range of different fabrics such as 100% cotton or 100% polyester. Cotton and polyester are fabrics that react very differently when ink is applied to them depending on how the print is put on the fabric. This means it is not always as simple as stating polo shirts can be printed on as it very much depends on the fabric the shirt is made from rather than the style or design. Please take this into account when reading the following information.

So let’s begin with one of the most popular clothing items for printing, T-Shirt’s

What is it with t-shirts? They never seem to be in or out of fashion they are just there all the time. We all have them in our wardrobe and most of us wear them regularly. One reason why they are always popular is the different ways in which they can be personalised with any number of methods but by far the most popular way of decorating a t-shirt is to print it.

When printing t-shirts, the world is your oyster and the only boundary is often your own imagination. Lightweight and for warm weather or under a jumper, they are a great garment for decorating. As discussed above one of the few considerations to make when considering a printed t-shirt is what it is made from. Cotton is a great fabric to print on and will show detail and colour well along with providing a good base for a long lasting, durable print. As we will cover later in this article, whilst your imagination may run away with you it will be your pocket that may drag you back to reality when it comes to choosing a print. That is because print prices are based on the number of colours in the design rather than the size of it. We have many a customer that comes to us with a fantastic design only to realise it has 20 plus colours in it and will cost a small fortune to produce.

JKL can recommend and help with both the t-shirt you select and the print you apply and as we stock many different styles of t-shirt we are sure we have the right one for you.

Another winner when it comes to printed clothing is the Polo Shirt

Printed polo shirts can be discussed in much the same way as printed t-shirts. Worn in so many different environments the polo shirt has the smartness of a buttoned and collared garment coupled with the comfort and practicality of a casual clothing item. Our customers range from business’s, sports clubs, schools and charities to name but a few, all using a printed polo shirt to promote their identity.

As discussed t-shirt’s are a great item to print and the same can be said about polo shirts. Polo shirts are often made from a slightly heavier fabric but this does not affect the quality of the print. What will affect the quality of the print is the fabric content of the shirt. As with any garment a fabric with a high polyester content can have a detrimental effect on how it will accept a print, so please choose carefully before selecting a polo shirt on which to print.

Polo Shirts usually come in 100% cotton or a mixture of polyester and cotton. Depending on the amount of polyester in the fabric either can be printed onto.

What about when it gets a bit colder. A printed sweatshirt may then be the answer

Printed sweatshirts can be used as an addition to your uniform order or a garment on its own. Whichever sweatshirts are a great clothing item on which to print. Usually made from a majority cotton mix fabric the sweatshirt surface accepts all forms of ink and print and provides a lasting garment which shows off any printed logo very well indeed.

Positional choice is usually as per the printed t-shirt with large logos highly visible on the front centre or rear.

The sweatshirt fabric retains its shape well over time so the ink will not be distorted by miss shaping of the garment and should therefore last wash after wash.

As always JKL can help with your choice of sweatshirt or hooded sweatshirt and how to print it to get the best possible personalised results

garment fleece image

Want something for when the weather is not that warm, well what about a fleece?

Well you can’t! This would have been the answer only 3 or 4 years ago but now you can. Softshell fleece fabrics can be printed on using a number of print methods that could not be applied to the regular fleece fabric seen on many a jacket or top. Fleece can often require a specialist ink and method of application so it is best to seek the advice of one of our experienced sales team before you select a softshell or fleece garment on which to apply your printed logo.

The last piece of outer garment clothing, the printed jacket

The choice in jackets is vast but a large number of the jackets we stock are suitable for printing; it is just a matter of preference for the jacket style that dictates which to choose. Personalising them with a print can be tricky but many of our jackets have zipped access points to allow us to insert a screen or block into them and print onto the outer shell of the jacket without disturbing the inner lining.

Pockets are another area of a printed jacket that can cause an issue when applying the print. Our jackets have been chosen to allow us to print onto them without altering the design or functionality of the garment itself.

One final clothing type we will look at is headwear

Hats, caps and hoods can all be printed but each shape and style will dictate what and how we can print onto it. If you are looking for an item of printed headwear than it would be better to contact one of our staff and discuss your requirements with them before ordering.

That’s it for JKL’s Clothing guide to printed clothing. Our staff are here at the end of a phone or email to help and advise you through every step of ordering, from choosing the right garment to getting the best from your printed logo.

We try to make ordering any printed or personalised item from us as easy and stress free as possible. Some orders are more complicated than others which is why we have a team ready to talk and discuss individual requirements.

There are any number of ways you can order from us from fully online through to our super-fast website, to picking up the phone and speaking to one of our staff, 0114 239 8000. So please get in touch and allow JKL Clothing to cater for your printed clothing requirements.
