How To Choose Your Embroidered Polo Shirt

Choosing a polo shirt to embroider can be quite a challenge. With literally dozens of brands available and many different styles, fabrics and colours to choose from it can be very difficult to narrow down your selection to one that best meets your requirements.

Firstly, let’s consider the embroidery itself. Polo shirt fabric can be made from a variety of materials including a range of different weights. Why does this matter? In short the size of your embroidered logo or text may affect the polo shirt and lead to it distorting the shape of the garment because you have added the extra weight of the embroidery to it. An average size logo is approximately 5000 stitches in total. This would provide a decent size embroidery that would fit nicely onto the left chest of a polo shirt. The same size logo with many infill stitches could increase the size of the embroidery to 8000 to 10,000 stitches. An embroidered logo of this size would need to be applied to a heavier weight polo shirt in order to maintain the shape of the shirt itself.

What fabric weights are polo shirts available in? A lighter weight style polo shirt is usually between 170gsm (grams per square metre) and 180gsm with a heavyweight polo shirt available up to 250gsm. As you can see there is quite a difference, so choose carefully when taking into consideration the size of the embroidered logo you are applying

Next is the style of the polo shirt. We have several different styles which slightly differ from the standard polo shirt. The style of your polo shirt is mainly a personal choice as most will accommodate an embroidered logo in much the same way.

The third point is fabric. We will discuss the fabric choice in a separate article, but suffice to say the type of fabric does play a part in your choice of garment. This is not as important in embroidered polo shirts as it is in printed ones and is often just choice and preference as opposed to its relation to an embroidered logo.

The fourth point is something that you may wish to consider and that’s the brand of polo shirt. The main question you want to ask yourself is if the brand of polo shirt you choose is going to still be around in the same style and colour in 6 or 12 months time? This factor comes into play if your embroidered polo shirt is going to be a garment you will need to re-order for staff uniform or a future event. You will need to pick a brand that will manufacture your chosen polo shirt in the future so you can get a consistent garment for your logo.

Final point is the price. We have left this one to last as in our experience it is often the deciding factor when selecting an Embroidered Polo Shirt. As you would expect with a large choice comes a large price range. Price can be affected by many things such as fabric, style, weight and. The other cost involved will obviously be the application of the embroidery onto your polo shirt. An embroidery charge is based on the number of stitches within your logo or text and is priced per 1000 stitches. Therefore, the smaller the embroidery, the cheaper the price.

So, which polo shirt do we recommend at JKL Clothing. Over the last 20 years we have seen many brands come and go within the embroidered polo shirt industry. There are 3 main exceptions to this which are Fruit of the Loom, Gildan and Kustom Kit. In our experience these brands offer the consistency, quality and value that make for an ideal choice when looking to purchase an embroidered polo shirt.
